{"id":3157,"date":"2012-11-26T19:17:16","date_gmt":"2012-11-27T01:17:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=3157"},"modified":"2012-11-26T19:17:16","modified_gmt":"2012-11-27T01:17:16","slug":"cq-ww-dx-cw","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=3157","title":{"rendered":"CQ WW DX CW"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[Today&#8217;s run: 4 and 3\/4 miles]<\/p>\n<p>Over the weekend I finished breaking and repairing the old NCX-5 and got it all buttoned back up.\u00a0 A big circular exercise.\u00a0 One lasting improvement is that I put a grommet on the power cable.\u00a0 I happen to have a handy supply of grommets.\u00a0 Not everyone can say that.<\/p>\n<p>After all of that fun I cleared off the radio desk and put the old TS-820 in primary position.\u00a0 I got the TLF logging program going on the old laptop and started to do a little contesting.\u00a0 This weekend was the big CQ WW DX CW contest.\u00a0 [translation:\u00a0 CQ magazine sp0nsors the WorldWide DX (distance) CW (morse code) contest]\u00a0 This particular contest is a good one for contacting new countries around the globe.\u00a0 I picked up a some good ones:\u00a0 Shetland Islands, Guam, Iceland are a few I remember.<\/p>\n<p>I will need to tidy up my contest log in the next couple of days and send it in.\u00a0 Then I can also send it to the LogbookOfTheWorld\u00a0 (LoTW) on the ARRL website and see if I get any QSLs that way\u00a0 (QSL: confirmation of contact)<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m over 100 countries in LoTW now.\u00a0 If I wanted to pay for the ARRL to send me a DXCC plaque I could do that.\u00a0 Maybe someday I will.<\/p>\n<p>I think the average man-on-the-street would be surprised that someone in Iceland spends a weekend in November trying to manage a pile-up of people from around the world attempting to contact them via morse code.\u00a0 The same time as a guy from Guam is doing the same.\u00a0 See, lots of people all around the world have things in common.<\/p>\n<p>Oh, and I got a shipment of real QSL cards today from the Zero-Land card burro.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s an example, a card from a contact in last year&#8217;s CQ WW DX CW Contest:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?attachment_id=3158\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3158\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-3158\" title=\"JN1NOP QSL from 2011 CQ WW DX CW\" src=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Scan_Pic0066-700x979.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"979\" srcset=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Scan_Pic0066-700x979.jpg 700w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Scan_Pic0066-732x1024.jpg 732w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Scan_Pic0066.jpg 785w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[Today&#8217;s run: 4 and 3\/4 miles] Over the weekend I finished breaking and repairing the old NCX-5 and got it all buttoned back up.\u00a0 A big circular exercise.\u00a0 One lasting improvement is that I put a grommet on the power cable.\u00a0 I happen to have a handy supply of grommets.\u00a0 Not everyone can say that.
