{"id":3079,"date":"2012-10-29T18:21:37","date_gmt":"2012-10-29T23:21:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=3079"},"modified":"2012-10-29T18:24:34","modified_gmt":"2012-10-29T23:24:34","slug":"our-little-heater","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=3079","title":{"rendered":"Our little heater"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[Today&#8217;s run: 3.4 miles\u00a0 tapering down toward 1\/2 marathon this Saturday]<\/p>\n<p>We live in Mississippi, closer to Tennessee than to the Gulf of Mexico.\u00a0 It does sometimes get a bit cold here in the winter.\u00a0 This morning it was in the mid 30s and tonight it is supposed to get down near freezing.\u00a0 A couple of years ago we had snow flurries on Christmas.<\/p>\n<p>But the weather in general is much warmer than the various places I have lived in the past.\u00a0 Our house is constructed with the climate in mind.\u00a0 The roof would not hold up a 2&#8242; snow.<\/p>\n<p>We have central air.\u00a0 And we have a &#8220;toaster&#8221; type heating element in that air\/furnace unit which will send warm air through the duct work.\u00a0 But it is electric and kind of expensive to run.<\/p>\n<p>So most of our space heating comes from this little fake fireplace in the living room.\u00a0 It uses propane gas.\u00a0 We got our propane tank topped up about a month ago.\u00a0 So far we have never used a whole tank of propane in the course of a single winter.\u00a0 I think last year we used about 70% of the tank.<\/p>\n<p>We generally keep the thermostat of the fake fireplace at about 68 degrees.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll set the electric furnace\/toaster to maybe 65.\u00a0 That way we won&#8217;t have frozen pipes if either the pilot light goes out or the electricity goes out. We use our ceiling fans to move the hot air around the house.<\/p>\n<p>I enjoy wearing long sleeves and taking hot baths and other aspects of winter life.\u00a0 I wish it weren&#8217;t dark.\u00a0 But otherwise I enjoy winter in Mississippi over summer by far.<\/p>\n<p>This thing is in the living room.\u00a0 The builders put some cabinet work around it, but it really is just about 6 inches in depth and is a drop-in unit, nothing fancy at all.
