{"id":2909,"date":"2012-09-04T19:06:01","date_gmt":"2012-09-05T00:06:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=2909"},"modified":"2012-09-04T19:07:54","modified_gmt":"2012-09-05T00:07:54","slug":"hw-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=2909","title":{"rendered":"HW-8"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[Today&#8217;s run: 2.5 miles]<\/p>\n<p>I passed my ham radio test in 1981 and then got a further license class in 1982.<\/p>\n<p>Soon after that my father bought me a kit from the old Heathkit Co.\u00a0 It was an HW-8 QRP transceiver.\u00a0 I put it together on my desk in my dorm room in Friley Hall.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve had it on the air a few times.\u00a0 For awhile I had loaned it out to a friend in Iowa.\u00a0 Unfortunately, I broke it sometime before I sent it to him and he is not the &#8220;fix it&#8221; kind of radio guy.<\/p>\n<p>While we were back in Iowa I collected it again from him.\u00a0 And I have fixed it a bit since we returned home.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve had two QSOs on it so far.<\/p>\n<p>Four bands, CW only, direct conversion receiver. It only puts out about 2 watts.<\/p>\n<p>I need to add a dial light.\u00a0 maybe I can rig something up.\u00a0 There are a lot of well documented modifications that can be done.
