{"id":2805,"date":"2012-07-28T20:29:02","date_gmt":"2012-07-29T01:29:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=2805"},"modified":"2012-07-28T20:29:02","modified_gmt":"2012-07-29T01:29:02","slug":"concrete-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=2805","title":{"rendered":"Concrete work"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[Today&#8217;s run: 7 miles]<\/p>\n<p>For two years we have been thinking about building a shade structure over our back patio.\u00a0 Our back door faces mostly south, and the summer sun really beats in.\u00a0 So we want to build a pergola-type structure and maybe grow some wisteria on it or other vine, to provide shade.<\/p>\n<p>A while ago I built a column from bricks left over from the house.<\/p>\n<p>Today we worked on the second column, this time using bagged concrete mix and one of those tube-form things.<\/p>\n<p>We laid the thing out earlier this week.\u00a0 I dug the hole yesterday.\u00a0 The digging was easy because it was 100% sand under the sod.\u00a0 I had a beautiful hole.\u00a0 Then we received 3\/4&#8243; of rain and the sides of my hole slumped a bit at the bottom.<\/p>\n<p>Today I cleaned out the hole and set the form so that the top was about one foot above the grass.\u00a0 We mixed and placed 6 80-lb bags of concrete.\u00a0\u00a0 (I was worried toward the end if we would have enough.\u00a0 Finished with a couple of scoops left.)\u00a0 We put a &#8216;J-bolt&#8217; in the middle, to use with a post fitting.<\/p>\n<p>We put some plastic-wrap stuff over the top to keep the moisture in.<\/p>\n<p>I think it looks pretty good!\u00a0 One more large hole to do.\u00a0 And we have to resolve a place where the post will come down on the existing slab.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[Today&#8217;s run: 7 miles] For two years we have been thinking about building a shade structure over our back patio.\u00a0 Our back door faces mostly south, and the summer sun really beats in.\u00a0 So we want to build a pergola-type structure and maybe grow some wisteria on it or other vine, to provide shade.
