[Today’s run: rest day]<\/p>\n
I was cruising through wikipedia a bit today, like I often do.\u00a0\u00a0 Somehow I got into some pages about glow-plug engines for model planes and cars.<\/p>\n
I the 1970’s I was into glow-plug planes and cars for awhile.\u00a0 It started with a Cox Shrike, a green car powered by a little airplane engine and propeller.\u00a0 We used to\u00a0 take that thing down to the school yard and run it free across the asphalt.\u00a0 Mine had a rollbar.\u00a0 So it would get to the end of the pavement then bounce around and probably flip over.\u00a0 We would go get it and fire it up again and aim it back.<\/p>\n
Then I did a little bit with control-line airplanes.\u00a0 That’s where you stand in the middle of a circle and your plane goes around and around you, tied to a handle by two wires.<\/p>\n
I got into model rocketry just a little bit.<\/p>\n
And I built a “free flight” plane which I had just about finished but never flew.<\/p>\n
I never did get into radio control airplanes; too expensive for me.\u00a0 About the time I was getting a job and had some money, I was out of planes and off to other stuff.<\/p>\n
Do they let junior high kids play with nitromethane and glow plugs anymore?<\/p>\n
