{"id":2725,"date":"2012-06-24T19:17:07","date_gmt":"2012-06-25T00:17:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=2725"},"modified":"2012-06-24T19:17:07","modified_gmt":"2012-06-25T00:17:07","slug":"field-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=2725","title":{"rendered":"Field Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[Today&#8217;s run: rest day]<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday and this morning I did a bit of ham radio operating at the Lowndes County Amateur Radio Club in Columbus, MS.<\/p>\n<p>We ran a field day station from the clubhouse with two transceivers and two G5RV wire antennas.<\/p>\n<p>I worked 15 meters and 40 meters last night from around 6 until around 11.\u00a0 Then this morning I went back in and worked the 20 meter station for about 2 hours before church.<\/p>\n<p>Field day is kind of like a contest, there are lots of people on the air, but the original purpose was to be a &#8220;to the field&#8221; emergency preparedness exercise, taking your radios and antennas to a remote location and setting up under emergency conditions.<\/p>\n<p>We didn&#8217;t operate that way this year.\u00a0 But it was still a good experience.\u00a0 We had quite a few of the new club members stop by and try out HF\u00a0 (shortwave) operation for the first time.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?attachment_id=2726\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2726\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2726\" title=\"LocoARC field day 2012\" src=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG00588-20120624-0744-700x525.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG00588-20120624-0744-700x525.jpg 700w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG00588-20120624-0744.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[Today&#8217;s run: rest day] Yesterday and this morning I did a bit of ham radio operating at the Lowndes County Amateur Radio Club in Columbus, MS.
