{"id":2677,"date":"2012-06-05T20:06:25","date_gmt":"2012-06-06T01:06:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=2677"},"modified":"2012-06-06T11:38:26","modified_gmt":"2012-06-06T16:38:26","slug":"transit-of-venus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=2677","title":{"rendered":"Transit of Venus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[Today&#8217;s run: Watson Road &#8211; 3+ miles]<\/p>\n<p>We watched a little bit of the transit of Venus across the sun this afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>I had been reading about it, saw the information about when it was going to happen.<\/p>\n<p>And I found <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.eng.cam.ac.uk\/~hemh\/transit.htm\">a web page that described how to see it<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I\u00a0 put masking tape on a piece of mirror (out of an old overhead projector) so that only a little square remained, about 1\/4 inch on a side.\u00a0 I attached the mirror to a piece of 2&#215;4 lumber and attached the 2&#215;4 to a larger piece in such a way that I could hinge it around.\u00a0 With that and some blocks under the larger piece we were able to point the reflection of the sun through the garage and into the house.<\/p>\n<p>We had to repoint it often because the sun was moving right along.\u00a0 We could see the little black dot of Venus, and lots of other dots from specks on the window.\u00a0 We had some clouds roll through; our observations were broken up into 3-4 periods when the sun was completely out.<\/p>\n<p>Venus got about half way across the sun&#8217;s face before sunset.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?attachment_id=2678\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2678\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2678\" title=\"transit of venus\" src=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG00577-20120605-1801-700x525.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG00577-20120605-1801-700x525.jpg 700w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG00577-20120605-1801.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[Today&#8217;s run: Watson Road &#8211; 3+ miles] We watched a little bit of the transit of Venus across the sun this afternoon.
