My lovely wife and I went out this evening to a place that sometimes has live music.\u00a0 And they did have two guys this evening singing and playing guitar.<\/p>\n
They sang a song about being with a girl and lying in the grass to look up at the stars. I have to say, I think that would be a very bad idea.\u00a0 Just walking across the yard without shoes on is living dangerously, in my opinion.<\/p>\n
Another thing;\u00a0 you hear about 19th century southern belles with perfect skin.\u00a0 I’m highly skeptical.\u00a0 I’ve just been in Mississippi two years (plus a bit), I wear shoes, often boots,\u00a0 I live in an air conditioned house and use an air conditioned car to go places.\u00a0 And I have bug bites, ant bites, bee stings, poison ivy, and who knows what else.\u00a0 A woman in the 19th century would have had to stay at home and spend her days standing on a chair with all four chair legs in pans of water in order to avoid having scars over half her body from all of the critters out to munch on a person down here.<\/p>\n
It’s kind of like when you watch some movie, supposedly about people prior to 1930, and all of the actors and actresses have straight, shiny white teeth.\u00a0 Sure, you bet.\u00a0 Call me skeptical.<\/p>\n
But back to that song.\u00a0 If I were to have a picnic under the stars I think I would end up being on the menu.<\/p>\n
Not that I’m trying to impress you about Mississippi’s fauna and flora.\u00a0 We had rattlesnakes and cacti in Colorado, floods, wildfires, avalanches and bears. But you could sit on a rock in Colorado and probably not get overrun with fire ants.<\/p>\n
I’m enjoying country living.<\/p>\n
