{"id":2277,"date":"2012-03-03T17:19:57","date_gmt":"2012-03-03T23:19:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=2277"},"modified":"2012-03-03T17:19:57","modified_gmt":"2012-03-03T23:19:57","slug":"run-through-history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=2277","title":{"rendered":"Run through history"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[Today&#8217;s run: 6.2 miles\u00a0 (10k)]<\/p>\n<p>We ran the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.runthruhistory.org\/\">Run Through History 10k<\/a> today over in Vicksburg, MS.<\/p>\n<p>Had never been to Vicksburg before.\u00a0 What little we saw seemed like an interesting town.\u00a0 They straddle I-20, right on the Mississippi River.\u00a0 We did not get down to the river but did drive toward downtown just a bit while searching for the race start.<\/p>\n<p>The race is run in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/vick\/index.htm\">Vicksburg National Military Park<\/a>, an operation of the US Department of Interior.<\/p>\n<p>The route is very hilly but scenic.\u00a0 I was completely discombobulated about directions.\u00a0 Now that I see the course map online it makes a bit more sense.<\/p>\n<p>The place is chock full of monuments and signs marking the approximate locations of various battle units of the US Civil War.\u00a0 There are red signs for Confederate positions and blue signs for Union positions. Some of the markers are very large granite monuments.<\/p>\n<p>The run is on the main road loops and they had the road completely closed off for the race.\u00a0 That was really nice.\u00a0 They also had a lot of volunteer help, including probably a hundred Americorps folks cheering us on.<\/p>\n<p>It was very nice race.\u00a0 I would like to do it again sometime.\u00a0\u00a0 And the park was very pleasant.\u00a0 It would be nice to just walk those loops again and read all of the markers and monuments.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[Today&#8217;s run: 6.2 miles\u00a0 (10k)] We ran the Run Through History 10k today over in Vicksburg, MS.
