{"id":2132,"date":"2012-01-28T18:52:44","date_gmt":"2012-01-29T00:52:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=2132"},"modified":"2012-01-28T20:43:30","modified_gmt":"2012-01-29T02:43:30","slug":"jackson-hamfest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=2132","title":{"rendered":"Jackson Hamfest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[Today&#8217;s run: nothing]<\/p>\n<p>We just returned from the hamfest in Jackson, Mississippi this evening.<\/p>\n<p>We had gone down yesterday and set up a table to sell some of this stuff, particularly some of those <a href=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=630\">VHF bandpass cavity filters<\/a> that I had <a href=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?m=20110426\">acquired last spring<\/a>.\u00a0 The hamfest swap was open from 5 pm-8 pm yesterday and again today from 8 am to 4 pm (we stayed until a bit after 3 pm).<\/p>\n<p>Yes, we did sell the cavity filters we had along.\u00a0 We also sold a 2 KV power supply.<\/p>\n<p>We picked up a few things.\u00a0 My acquisition is a receiver, it looks to be based on some commercial design but gutted out for a homebrew attempt.\u00a0 There are 13 tubes.\u00a0 It has a rotating slide-rule frequency display, kind of like a Racal RA-17 but has far fewer controls.<\/p>\n<p>I was doing\u00a0 some internet searching to see if I could find what commercial design they started with.\u00a0 The knobs are all grey and have white printing on the face of the knob itself.\u00a0 Most are arrows but one says, &#8220;CW-OSC\u00a0 Adjust&#8221; along with an arrow.\u00a0 I have not seen knobs like that.\u00a0 Overall, the thing looks pretty dirty but intact.\u00a0 Have not yet found anything that looks similar.<\/p>\n<p>(! I think I found the knobs.\u00a0 They look exactly link knobs on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ohio.edu\/people\/postr\/bapix\/BC342.htm\">BC-342<\/a>, and similar radios.)<\/p>\n<p>I saw some other stuff of interest.\u00a0 One guy had a SX-42 in poor shape for only $20.\u00a0 Another guy had an estate selection of nice Collins, Heathkit and Hammarlund gear (most of which he did not sell).\u00a0 The same table from which I got my homebrew item had a very rusty Heathkit DX-100.\u00a0 I joked with the guy that whoever had been using it as a boatanchor must have decided to pull it back up.\u00a0 Quite a few TS-820\/530\/830 type rigs for sale, a few newer outfits. Some parts.\u00a0 A couple of guys had CW keys, but all wanted more than I was willing to pay.<\/p>\n<p>Had some nice conversations including one with Ward Silver, n0ax, a regular columnist for QST magazine.\u00a0 I knew his name rang a bell, and he had a tag with his zero-land callsign&#8230; I thought at first that he was someone from far-off Colorado just happening to be in Mississippi.\u00a0 But that wasn&#8217;t it.\u00a0 I soon figured it out.\u00a0 He was in town to help man the ARRL booth and give a presentation, which, I am sorry to say, I was unable to attend.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[Today&#8217;s run: nothing] We just returned from the hamfest in Jackson, Mississippi this evening.
