{"id":2121,"date":"2012-01-24T19:30:06","date_gmt":"2012-01-25T01:30:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=2121"},"modified":"2012-01-24T19:30:06","modified_gmt":"2012-01-25T01:30:06","slug":"federal-am-864-maybe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=2121","title":{"rendered":"Federal AM-864 (maybe)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[Today&#8217;s run: 2 miles]<\/p>\n<p>Another piece of equipment I received with the AM transmitter was this thing.<\/p>\n<p>It has a big\u00a0 output level meter on the front scaled in &#8220;db attenuation&#8221;.\u00a0 Sounds like an audio thing doesn&#8217;t it?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?attachment_id=2122\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2122\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2122\" title=\"audio compressor\" src=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/GEDC0202-700x467.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"233\" srcset=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/GEDC0202-700x467.jpg 700w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/GEDC0202-1024x684.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I did some searching and figured that it must be something very similar to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.montagar.com\/~patj\/ftc.htm\">Federal AM-864\/U limiter\/compressor<\/a>, a tube audio compressor that is somewhat in demand by recording studio types.<\/p>\n<p>This one has an extra tube, a 6C4, and it has a big switch on the front.\u00a0 It has a place where there used to be an identification tag.<\/p>\n<p>I think the big switch is for transmit\/receive control.\u00a0 And I think the 6C4 is an additional microphone amplification stage.\u00a0 I think this was modified to act as a remote console for the big AM transmitter, or something similar.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s my theory anyway.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[Today&#8217;s run: 2 miles] Another piece of equipment I received with the AM transmitter was this thing.
