[Today’s run: resting up for race tomorrow ]<\/p>\n

A few years ago I happened to be in the right place at the right time to inherit a big homebrew AM ham transmitter.\u00a0 I had some fun with it and I passed it on to someone else when we decided to move from Colorado to Mississippi.<\/p>\n

At the same time I received the AM transmitter I also received some odds and ends.\u00a0 One of the items was\u00a0 this thing.\u00a0\"\"<\/a> It appears to be a VHF or UHF AM transmitter.\u00a0 The front has various controls and meters.\u00a0 The side panels open up to show the tube-base wiring.\u00a0 Tubes are actually accessed from the back.\u00a0 No sign of a VFO or frequency indicator.\u00a0 There is a crystal socket on the front. \u00a0 The meter in the center could be switched to monitor three<\/a> stages of frequency multiplication. It stood about 4 feet tall, about 30 inches wide.<\/p>\n

It had been modified with a different output network.\u00a0 It had an 829 final tube in it.\u00a0 The 829 came out in 1940 and will produce about 80 watts up into the UHF range.<\/p>\n

It did have some nice transformers in there, and lots more tubes.\u00a0 There was an audio section.<\/p>\n

Maybe it was a single frequency AM transmitter,\u00a0 from an airport or something?<\/p>\n

When it came time to move I gutted it out, kept all of the tubes, tube sockets, transformers, meters, etc. and got rid of the chassis.\u00a0\u00a0 I am kind of hoping someone will come along someday and say, “Hey!\u00a0 I used to have one of those!”\u00a0 I realize the odds are very slim.<\/p>\n
