[Today’s run: 7.1 miles with Boardtown Runners]<\/p>\n

Somehow I found myself at PetSmart looking at cat scratching posts, tower thingies.\u00a0 They had the rope-spiral-covered kind and the carpet kind.\u00a0 The one that looked interesting was $79.99.\u00a0 And, how will we know the cat will actually use it?<\/p>\n

A woman, a perfect stranger, came around the corner and told us that she bought something much better and much cheaper at Wal-Mart.\u00a0 (Don’t have to tell me twice!)\u00a0 So off we went to Wal-Mart.\u00a0 There we saw no such thing at all.\u00a0 None.\u00a0 Zip.<\/p>\n

But they did have some pretty cheap carpet pieces.\u00a0 We got a\u00a0 3 x 5 piece of carpet for $12.xx.\u00a0 [And we bought the other stuff that we needed.\u00a0 Which is why a trip to Wal-Mart always turns into something more than you were intending.\u00a0 And don’t even get me started about the checkout lines\u00a0 5 carts long.\u00a0 We snuck out through the garden center check-out.\u00a0 Yes, we did pay.]<\/p>\n

At home, I put my super-duper carpentry skills to work.\u00a0 [Power tools..\u00a0 nail gun.]\u00a0 I used a very nice cedar post which I inherited from the Winger house last summer.\u00a0 It was kind of buggy and chewed up on one end.\u00a0 But all I needed was about 5 feet and that worked out fine.\u00a0 We made a base from 2 x 4 lumber; put some decking on it; put on our Wal-Mart carpet; put on a shelfy-thing.\u00a0 The carpet job is not what I would call professional.\u00a0 But in that regard it matches most of the rest of the carpet in this house.<\/p>\n

The base of the thing is nearly 30 inches square.\u00a0 The cat is checking it out.<\/p>\n
