{"id":1486,"date":"2011-09-29T21:31:59","date_gmt":"2011-09-30T02:31:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=1486"},"modified":"2011-09-29T21:37:24","modified_gmt":"2011-09-30T02:37:24","slug":"sx-11-pt-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=1486","title":{"rendered":"SX-11 pt 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[Today&#8217;s run: 1 mile with wife and dog]<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s another picture of the Hallicrafters SX-11.<\/p>\n<p>Our new capacitors came today via UPS.\u00a0 The things we are replacing are the yellow tubular paper\/wax components.\u00a0 I think there is a blue one also.\u00a0 I believe we counted 17 of them here and one on the top side.\u00a0 Capacitors are made of metal foil and pasty dielectric stuff.\u00a0 Over time they lose their gumption.<\/p>\n<p>This receiver is 1936 vintage.\u00a0 It was a mid-range set in it&#8217;s day.\u00a0 It has 11 tubes and a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Superheterodyne_receiver\">superheterodyne<\/a> design.\u00a0\u00a0 It has a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tuning_eye\">&#8220;tuning-eye&#8221;<\/a> tube. The &#8220;sx&#8221; indicates that\u00a0 it has a crystal filter for better narrow reception.
