{"id":1369,"date":"2011-09-13T21:14:48","date_gmt":"2011-09-14T02:14:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=1369"},"modified":"2011-09-13T21:18:24","modified_gmt":"2011-09-14T02:18:24","slug":"qrp-publications","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?p=1369","title":{"rendered":"QRP publications"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[Today&#8217;s run: 1.5 miles with wife and dog (run\/walk)]<\/p>\n<p>I am not an electronics expert.\u00a0 I did not study electrical engineering in college and I have never worked a job where such knowledge was required.\u00a0 So a lot of my self-education in electronics has come by reading books, web pages, magazines, and studying various circuits and projects either in schematic or constructed form.<\/p>\n<p>I have a pretty good library of electronics books.\u00a0 There are a few classics which I would still like to obtain, but I have plenty enough to learn and a good variety of sources to learn from.<\/p>\n<p>QRP is a morse code shorthand which means &#8220;low power&#8221;.\u00a0 It used to be a suggestion for action:\u00a0 please lower your power.\u00a0 But now it covers a whole area of amateur radio interests focused around lower power operation including the design and construction of unique radios.\u00a0 Morse code operation is uniquely suited for this type of equipment;\u00a0 all that is needed is a steady RF signal and way to turn it on and off (or detect it).<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a picture of three books that I have picked up over the years:<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>QRP Classics<\/em><\/strong> is an anthology of small-radio construction projects and articles gathered from ARRL publications in the 1970s &#8211; 1980s.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>W1FB&#8217;s Design Notebook<\/strong><\/em> is a collection of ideas, rules of thumb, circuit pieces, etc.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>W1FB&#8217;s QRP Notebook<\/strong><\/em> covers some of the same ground.<\/p>\n<p>I think all of these came out around 1990.<\/p>\n<p>W1FB was Doug DeMaw, a technical expert at the ARRL and prolific author.\u00a0 He also was the co-author of a book which I would like to eventually acquire: <em><strong>Solid State Design for the Radio Amateur<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The three in this picture are pretty easy to find.\u00a0 SSDRA is not easy to find.\u00a0 The modern replacement for SSDRA is<strong><em> Expermental Methods in RF Design<\/em><\/strong>, which I have, and\u00a0 is still in print from the ARRL.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-1370\" href=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/?attachment_id=1370\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1370\" title=\"QRP books\" src=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/GEDC0054-700x467.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"467\" srcset=\"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/GEDC0054-700x467.jpg 700w, http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/GEDC0054-1024x684.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[Today&#8217;s run: 1.5 miles with wife and dog (run\/walk)] I am not an electronics expert.\u00a0 I did not study electrical engineering in college and I have never worked a job where such knowledge was required.\u00a0 So a lot of my self-education in electronics has come by reading books, web pages, magazines, and studying various circuits [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1369","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-ham-radio"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1369","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=1369"}],"version-history":[{"count":5,"href":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1369\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":1375,"href":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1369\/revisions\/1375"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=1369"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=1369"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/w0ep.us\/OM\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=1369"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
