Had a nice relaxing day today.\u00a0 Church this morning; nice lunch, a bit of radio operating\u00a0 (Algeria on 20 meters with 5 watts!)<\/p>\n
This year we gave a bit of money at the public radio beg-a-thon.\u00a0 The funny thing is that since doing that, we have not been listening to MPB\u00a0 (Mississippi Public Broadcasting) as much as we had been before.<\/p>\n
Although I get a bit tired of the public radio political bias, I don’t find it completely irksome.\u00a0 I’ve had to write off Prairie Home Companion as Mr. Keillor has gotten more political (and nasty) as the years have gone by.\u00a0 We sometimes hear What a’ ya’ Know on Sunday after church.\u00a0 That guy is in Wisconsin and the recent politics there sometimes intrude, but generally he does ok.\u00a0 I like This American Life, but I don’t know if it plays on MPB.\u00a0 Not at any time that I’m usually listening.<\/p>\n
We regularly get a bit of the Morning Edition, and the 9am local programming segment during the week, and maybe some All Things Considered.<\/p>\n
I can completely do without Here and Now,\u00a0 On Point, To the Point, and Tell Me More.\u00a0 They are all pretty much the same thing and rarely worth the effort.<\/p>\n
I like Car Talk, but I can\u00a0 only listen to it when my wife is not around.\u00a0 She easily over-yuks.\u00a0 And we both think Krista Tippet has some serious problems.\u00a0 (She had a show about faith, then declared as an atheist.\u00a0 Now her show is called “On Being” and we are afraid she may spontaneously combust.\u00a0 [faith–>no faith,\u00a0 being–>no being].\u00a0 Maybe she can have a show called “poor” then become rich and retire.)<\/p>\n
And they run way to much BBC News\u00a0 (but I know they do that because it is inexpensive and they don’t have an overabundance of money.)<\/p>\n
I’d say we were spoiled by the KUNC station in Colorado.\u00a0 MPB is about half as useful to us.<\/p>\n
The local programming segment though is very good.\u00a0 They should do more of that.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
