Concrete is In

[Wednesday’s run: 3.2 miles]

We had three bits, if you remember. One was an increase of width of the driveway. The third was the grass square enclosed by the front walk. And the final bit was the last of my porch extension “blocks” that will now let me install the third column.

Since I took this picture I’ve flattened out the soil in front of the west end of the porch and pulled the weeds.

(I had recently replaced the downspout with a pvc pipe. I don’t remember if you’ve seen that before.)

I hope to make some progress this weekend on that third column.

The concrete guys did ok for a sidewalk/driveway project. No there was no re-bar or reinforcement mesh. I was told there would be fiber in the mix, but I don’t see that in the bill of materials from the ready mix company. The line item says 8 yards of “3000 summer”.

The quantity turned out to be less than expected, so the overall expense of the project was lower.

I was concerned about there being shallow spots (our neighbor’s drive has some serious break-up in places) so I looked it over carefully Sunday evening after the forms were set and did a bit of leveling on my own.

I’m happy with the results. It really feels different coming out of our front door, much more friendly and spacious.

Just out of the frame of the upper picture, to the right, is a big pile of sod and dirt that I now need to distribute. And I need to get my junk pile out of the grass 🙂
