Old hard drive data

[Today’s run: Limerock Road  4 miles]

I worked on tearing apart an old tower-type computer the other day.  I had thought it had no disk drives but I eventually found some in there.  Unfortunately I had it most of the way apart before I got clued in.

So I have had these disk drives sitting here.  And I was thinking about another incident recently where I went to look for some old email I thought I had stashed away, stuff from the early 1990’s, and I couldn’t find it.  And that got me wondering if any of it might be on these old drives.  Today I got the old drives set up correctly in a newer computer and booted it up, into what turned out to be Red Hat 9 circa 2006.

It turned out that the old email stash was not on that system.  Just as well.  All it had on it was some ham radio stuff from when this box ran as an APRS gateway and digipeater.  So much for that idea.

But now I have a couple of very old, very un-employed hard drives.  Maybe I’ll eventually take them apart for the magnets.

No telling where my email stash is.  I’ll have to look around some more on this machine I’m using now.  It has lots of disk space and I probably zipped up all the old email and put it somewhere safe.
