Emergency

[Today’s run: 4 miles]

We’ve been watching Emergency in the evenings on Hulu on my laptop.

We just started season 3 and they changed all of the theme music.  They also now have some really annoying music they play as background while the paramedics are doing their rescue thing.

There sure was a big change in emergency medicine procedures and facilities between the late ’60s and the mid-’70s.  We watched a bunch of Adam-12 earlier this fall.  Their version of an ambulance was some policemen in a hearse-like vehicle.  Now, by season 3 of Emergency we have the cube-on-wheels style of ambulances, firemen/paramedics, a real emergency room at the hospital, etc.

Of course it could be that some of the difference is because of the amount of effort that the television show producers went to in being realistic.

On Emergency they have a lot of heart attacks.  They really don’t do much for the victims except keep them alive until the attack is over.  They have defibrillators and they do some catheterization scenes.  No balloons, no talk of heart surgery.

I’ve been to AED training, and CPR.  So I could do some of that fun stuff myself if given the opportunity.  No hurry though.
