Another piece of equipment I received with the AM transmitter was this thing.
It has a big output level meter on the front scaled in “db attenuation”. Sounds like an audio thing doesn’t it?
I did some searching and figured that it must be something very similar to the Federal AM-864/U limiter/compressor, a tube audio compressor that is somewhat in demand by recording studio types.
This one has an extra tube, a 6C4, and it has a big switch on the front. It has a place where there used to be an identification tag.
I think the big switch is for transmit/receive control. And I think the 6C4 is an additional microphone amplification stage. I think this was modified to act as a remote console for the big AM transmitter, or something similar.
That’s my theory anyway.
